Arcimoto FUV vs. Key West Scooter Rentals
Thinking about a Key West Scooter Rental? Think Again.
As a visitor to Key West, is a scooter rental a good choice for you? It seems like a fun idea, and Key West locals make it look easy as their scooters buzz up and down the island streets at all hours.
But remember, the locals are on the go day in and day out. They know the rhythm of the Key West streets and the right moves to make in the island city’s slow but close-packed traffic. And don’t forget that local riders are generally not going to be distracted by sights and sounds, finding their way to places, or trying to look around and take in all that is interesting on the island.
In contrast, Key West visitors want to be enjoying their time on the island. They should be relaxing and sightseeing unconcerned with maintaining the hyper-vigilance that every experienced street motorcycle rider knows is a matter of survival. No one wants to ruin their vacation with even a small mishap.
The Arcimoto FUV: A Perfect Key West Transportation Alternative
What’s the alternative to risking life and limb on a tiny scooter with wheels smaller than those on a child’s bicycle? Arcimoto Key West is proud to introduce the new Arcimoto Evergreen FUV (Fun Utility Vehicle). It’s the newest, coolest electric vehicle in Key West, and the FUV is now available for Key West visitors to rent at Arcimoto Key West’s Stock Island Hub.
Built by Arcimoto, an innovative all-American electric vehicle company with headquarters and manufacturing facilities located in Eugene, Oregon, the Arcimoto is a battery-powered, three-wheeled, open-air vehicle designed around a reverse-trike platform.
It has two wheels up front for an incredibly smooth, stable ride, and one in back for maneuverability that is on par with a motorcycle. High torque and responsive power make for motorcycle-like thrills when you twist the throttle. Add a quiet ride with wide views all around and you have the ideal island touring machine.
Arcimoto FUV vs. Scooter: A Side-by-Side Comparison
Safety – The Arcimoto is made for daily highway use. It meets Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for a motorcycle and goes far beyond that level with full roll-over and side impact protection, a front crush zone, and dual lap and shoulder belts for driver and passenger. Scooters are under a limited license, cannot be used on the highway, and offer no protection at all for riders. Scooters require balance to ride while an Arcimoto is nearly impossible to tip over.
Comfort – The Arcimoto features tandem wrap-around bucket seats with full back and neck support. Broad floor boards support and protect your feet and legs. Driving in flip-flops is not a problem. A cup holder, phone mount, and Bluetooth audio are standard. A scooter offers tight tandem seating on a narrow, thinly-padded seat with no back support. A very experienced scooter passenger may look at a phone or drink from a cup; for the driver to do so while moving is inviting disaster.
Power – Twin electric motors, one on each front wheel, produce 81 horsepower and 7.5 second 0-60 acceleration for the Arcimoto. An unmodified 125cc scooter produces 8-10 horsepower, while a 150cc class machine puts out around 12.5-13 horsepower.
Braking – It is a common myth that a motorcycle or scooter, being lighter, has a shorter stopping distance than a car. In fact, more rubber on the road means shorter stops. A scooter offers front and rear hydraulic disc brakes and a tiny tire footprint. The FUV features 3-wheel hydraulic disc brakes, a power regen brake lever that charges the battery while slowing the vehicle, and 3 automobile tires. And keep in mind that emergency braking and avoidance maneuvers often cause a two-wheeler to go down. The Arcimoto’s reverse trike design allows it to gain stability during hard braking and it is very difficult to tip over during quick maneuvers.
Gas Mileage – Most scooters will get up to 80 miles per gallon of gas depending on driving style. The Arcimoto is 100% electric and emission-free. It uses no gas and has a city driving battery range of about 100 miles.
Cruise in Style, Comfort, and Safety with Cutting-Edge Electric Vehicle Technology
Considering the facts carefully, it is clear that a scooter is in many cases a poor and even dangerous choice for a Key West visitor looking for safe, comfortable, and exciting transport around the island.
The Arcimoto FUV is intended to replace the car for urban transport needs and is designed with safety and comfort in mind. The responsive power, sports car-like handling, and wide-open views that you can actually relax and enjoy are bonuses that add to the Arcimoto’s fun factor.
